Surgical Treatment of Chronic Pancreatitis

Abstract

|
Chronic pancreatitis in Korea has increased according to the change of diet. The conservative treatment of chronic pancreatitis was limited in symptomatic relief of pain and associated complications, so surgical approches in managements have been
proposed to relieve the intractable pain and maintain the exocrine and endocrine function of pancreas. The surgical procedures were drainage of main pancreatic duct and resection of diseased portion of pancreas.
8 patients were treated surgically at the department of surgery, Chonnam University Hospital from january 1985 to December 1992. 7 patients were man. Indications of surgery were intractable pain and duodenal obstruction due to complication.
Operative
procedures were two Whipple's procedure, three longitudinal pancreaticojejunostomy, one distal pancreatectomy, one sphincteroplasty and one gastrojejunostomy in duodenal obstruction. Except bypass patient, seven patients improved in relief of
pain
and
nutrition.
